Task 2 - Unit 8


Task 2:

Describe the characteristics, duties and responsibilities of management, creative and technical job roles in the television and film industry with some appropriate use of subject terminology.



The duty a characteristic in management for the television and film industry is split into two different categories, these are creative and non – creative and into these two different categories they are involved with the management division, creative and technical administrative. In the whole media, there are many different options to choose from with the fixed working pattern, they can work office hours, freelance, hourly work, and irregular patters and lastly piece work.

Management:

The management criteria is based around people working, working together they can achieve goals and objectives faster and more efficiently with the correct standard that the media is needed in the television and film industry. The management role has also roles within his role such as; staffing, planning, organizing, directing and the whole control on the origination. The management role has to employ the correct employee to work for the industry meaning finding the right candidate with the right grades and experience. The management role also includes;

-       Locations; location manager and unit manager.
-       Casting crew.
-       Health and Safety.
-       Distribution.
-       Transport.

Production Accounting:

Managing the finance and maintaining finance is the responsible production accounting role in the film production. In their job role they have to prepare budgets for the film and also schedules, without this the film its self cannot be made on time or at all. Employees that are experience in this role are mostly experience in the film industry production, with a whole different range of understandings that is required in the film production. The role that the production accounting;

-       Organizes all the purchases with VAT and PAYE registrations. (Taxes)
-       Calculating finance, leasing and costing production.
-       Preparing budgets to calculate the final cost after the film has been started.

Casting Director:

Casting Directors is to control all the cast roles for all spoken bits and parts. They have a close connection with the directors and producers as they also have a choice to see whether the right artist is fitting in with the actually role in the scene. They also take place in the interviews as well, where they can negotiate fees and contracts with the actors/actresses. Adding on, the casting directors pick the actors and actresses to perform on set, this is a vital role because the directors has to have the best experience in this role to pic the correct person for the correct scene parts and roles. The actors have to match the ability, reputation and availability.





















Financial:

The financial sector in the television and film industry is essential as funding’s are needed to make the necessary films or shows. This includes saving money and lending money. This shows that the budget that is given to directors has to be well spent and every penny over could be a curtail moment where they make a loss or possibly a profit.

Organizational:

This part of the job has to be done correctly, with a high level or managerial skill that involves people in groups, also the organizer has to give charges for teams to be at the right location and also the task given have to be permitted by him and his consent because the job has to be done correctly. The originations roles include;

-       Casting directors / casting assistants
-       Transport


Administration:

Administration is business is the consistent performance of operating the business where big decisions are made for the final call; it’s simply an organized business with the correct resources efficiently to be achieved with goals and objectives.


Creative:

Being creative with the whole film and television industry attracts the consumers watching, making it more attractive and professional with different colors blending in with the actual program or film that is being shows or presented. A dull television program that is based on something you need to analyze would not appeal to you if it was just black and white with writing, making it bright, different colors and different scenarios would make it more engaging and something to learn from.

-       Directions / productions
-       Music / introduction

Film Director:

The film director is the person who directs the film along with the crew and actors, they maneuver the camera to a specific cinematography to capture each effect and image correctly for the type of scene. Further more, the film has to look perfect, with every capture took it has to match the mood of the environment and the mood of the actors emotion, the director has to signal all aspects into for filling it perfectly so the scene doesn’t collapse, the scripts often into a sequence of shots, which will work more effectively. The director has to move him self so that he is adjustable to his man overs because if the mood changes then the camera changes along side him.

Actors use scrip’s to remember their lines where as the film directors use storyboards, this gives them an indication to the next level or ideas and thoughts.  Every scene has a different approach, and ending to it, so the camera has to capture every little detail so the scene is complete, lastly, the director and editing crew will go through many hours of editing and finally end the editing with a film.




















Editorial:

Editing has many different parts to it, written, audible, visual and film. This is all necessary to complete a film, as a script may need editing, the recording parts also need editing because if a film is done with no editing then the film will last more than 50 hours.

Technical:

Technical is basically preparing all the right equipment for the television or film production. Without the equipment required then film or TV show will not be made on time or at all. This includes the camera, lighting and sound. This Technical role is important because not having the right camera the scenes cannot be recorded which has damaged and cause more money to be gone and valuable time to be spent.

-       Lighting, moving light operator
-       Studio / Broadcast technology
